YOU WHAT?!!!

WE CANCELED NETFLIX, SPOTIFY AND DISNEY +.

I know it seems crazy, but is it? Look at the money we were spending:
Netflix = $14.83/m
Spotify = $10.59/m
Disney + = $8.99/m

Altogether that's $35.41 a month, which maybe doesn't look like much. But when we added it all up, we were spending $412.92 a year on our entertainment and quite frankly we're not willing to do that anymore. We can add this to our investments and watch this money grow and grow over time, or we can put this money towards the kid's extracurricular activities. Screen time, or sports? Not really a hard question to answer.

Now, don't get me wrong. We love movies and shows and music just as much as the next person, and in fact, we even plan to spend money on it! But there are many more frugal ways to get our fair share of entertainment:

Free TV/movie options: YouTube (Dude Perfect obsessed), YouTube Kids, ctv.ca (we love This Is Us!), gem.cbc.ca, our local library
Free music: Spotify FREE, AccuRadio, TuneIn Radio

And then, there's Amazon Prime. This week, we are planning to purchase a yearly membership, which costs $79.00/y ($6.58/m). Amazon Prime is so much more than 2-day shipping (which will be awesome for our bulk purchases)! It includes Prime Video, Prime Music and Prime Reading. You guys, with Amazon Prime we can get access to millions of songs, and loads of movies and shows (seriously can't wait to binge Jack Ryan). That's more than enough for us, and nicely replaces the 3 other streaming services we were previously paying for.

Now for the numbers...

Netflix, Spotify, and Disney + were costing us $412.92 a year. Amazon Prime will cost us $79.00 a year. That's a savings of $333.92 A YEAR! To us, it's a no-brainer frugal move that still allows us to enjoy movies, shows, music, and even books as much as we'd like. Streaming frugalized! Woohoo!

As time goes on, we will keep you updated on any new free (and legal!) streaming services we may find that are available in Canada. And we'd love to hear if you think there are any we need to add to our list! We also love utilizing our local library for free DVD's and audiobooks. Our sweet librarian has even created our very own special Westman cubby for all the library material I request and sometimes sends us home with old battered movies and books to keep. She's too good to us!

Although we do enjoy our TV time, we don't want to spend our lives in front of it. So along with cutting down on the amount of money we spend on it, we are cutting down on the amount of time we spend watching it. Carpe diem!

WHAT FREE STREAMING SERVICES WOULD YOU ADD TO OUR LIST?
